Award Winners Friendship-Pine/Providence-Tanner Block Revitalization (Providence, RI) designed by Durkee, Brown, Viveiros,& Werenfels Architects (Providence, RI)… Alhambra Building Company (contractor, Cranston, RI) and Stand Corporation (contractor, Warwick, RI) and Yoder + Tidwell, Ltd. (structural engineer, Providence, RI) In a Providence neighborhood characterized by deteriorating historic houses and scattered vacant lots, the architects designed 14 new buildings, comprised of five different, two-family and three-family building types, along with rehabilitating 11 existing homes. The result is 61 affordable dwellings, plus a public park. The jury was impressed with the restrained but handsome vernacular design of the new buildings, as well as the scope and complexity of the undertaking.
